<Michael Speed Elder/>

a craftsman of fine front-end code

code

I'm a first-rate front-end developer, with a strong affinity for JavaScript in all its beautiful and quirky forms. How a page looks and what it can do are two sides of the same coin, and with more than six years of web development, I've gathered the skills, experience, and imagination to blend those elements seamlessly.

I've made single-page applications, and I've written reusable modules. I've implemented rich, responsive designs and hydrated sophisticated views with one eye on graceful degradation and the other on performance. And I've never run out of room on my toolbelt.

about me

Michael Speed Elder

Hi! I'm Michael, and I'll be your front-end engineer today. Feel free to hit me up by email or over LinkedIn.

I'm a Texas native with three years living in the Austin area, and many more not knowing what I was missing. I've got the head of a developer, the heart of a designer, and the height of an NBA center—if NBA centers didn't know very much about basketball. I love ultimate frisbee, board game night, happy hours, rain, and Netflix, although not at the same time.

I started doing web development in 2007, and since then I've become a five-star soufflé chef of websites. In my code kitchen, how a webpage looks or what it can do are all part of the same balanced breakfast, and I'm a firm believer that usability need not come at the expense of elegance. Also, that gingerbread pancakes can be an any-time-of-day food.

And, yes, Speed really is my middle name.
