Backstory

I started doing formal web development in 2007, and since then I have grown in my dedication to producing a memorable, effective, and uniquely creative web presence to suit any needs.

When people ask what I do, I like to tell them I am a "webcrafter", because I'm not just a web designer or web developer, I'm both. How a page looks or what it can do are by themselves just half of the equation, and half of a webpage isn't one users are likely to browse through for very long. Great webpages blend these elements seamlessly, and that is exactly the experience I strive to deliver.

McMillin Homes: Central Valley image

McMillin Homes: Central Valley

In this day and age, the world of real estate is a delicate playing field. Few companies handle this better than McMillin Homes. McMillin was looking to promote their new locations in California's Central Valley region and their partnership with Chef Ro through a cooking blog for new homeowners. What they needed was a page to tie everything together: new build sites, their company's established look and feel, and a delicious new blog.

Digett, a fantastic web boutique in Boerne, TX, builds and maintains all of McMillin Homes' web presence, and they quickly had a Photoshop layout of how the final product should turn out. What they didn't have was an available developer. They sent me the Photoshop file, looked at my draft, got notes from the client, and in 10 hours of one day, had the site up and running as desired in every browser. A personal best, and a new standard I'd like to hold myself to in future development.

Meaghan Golden Copywriting image

Meaghan Golden Avocato Copywriting

A challenge that faces anyone in a creative field is proving that they're not only technically proficient in their craft, but gifted with the unteachable art of inspiration. In this way, a webpage can serve as a handy tool, a more robust digital business card, to set yourself apart from the herd. At the recommendation of her graduate professors (and potential employers), my very talented friend asked if I could create a simple, online portfolio to showcase her work as a copywriter. I worked to combine Meaghan's personal taste for paisley art with a clean, aesthetically pleasing design. The layout keeps attention on the content, while reserving a fond place in the memory of anyone who browses her work.

Treehouse Theatre

The world of Theatre, especially theatre in New York City, can be a daunting career choice. For the truly passionate, however, it can sometimes be the only choice. Such was the case with one of my best friends, Mr. Stephen Brown. Teaming up with a similarly-minded and equally talented colleague (Alice Wiesner), the duo founded The Treehouse Theatre Company in June 2009, and are currently in the pre-production of their first show.

I sat down with Stephen and Alice and talked about the kind of theatre they were looking to put on, and we eventually settled on the idea of a surreal or imaginary design for their website. After trying a few designs of my own that exposed my lack of freehand drawing ability, I stumbled upon Dave James' wonderful cartoonish artwork now featured as the background of the page. Using his art as a guide, I tied function to form by wrapping the text and menu around the trunk of the tree, which has created an entirely original look, while blending perfectly with the flow of the page.

Sigma Theta Tau

Although there are few national fraternities or sororities on Trinity's campus, Greek life is still a thriving element of the University's social culture. Each Greek organization is required to maintain a certain standard of quality in order to be recognized as an official organization by the administration. These standards include participating in charity work, keeping an acceptable club-wide GPA, and updating a web page for both campus community and alumni relations.

This is the story of a sorority that was due for an update. The redesign of this page is based in large part around the ΣΘΤ colors (blue and silver) and symbol (star). There are a couple of nifty features: each member has her own page generated automatically from supplied information (name, year, etc.), their club Picassa web albums are integrated onto the Photos page, and the background is an ever shifting array of stars for a viewing experience that is never the same twice.
